Communication has never been a problem for me. My colleagues can attest to this. As goal number four states, I feel it's very important to effectively communicate with other teachers so that we are all doing our best to educate our students. There will be three new English teachers at Chester and they are going to need someone to guide them with the new curriculum that they will have. I have had great experiences in my past with teachers willing to help me with constructive criticism showing me the good in what I do and the areas that I could improve. I feel it's important to be honest with colleagues and tell them ways to improve their teaching but in a kind way. Also I want to help them with their teaching by showing them examples of reading skills that I have implemented from my Reading Comprehension class that I took with Loye Romerheim-Holmes. I want to be careful to communicate often with a new teacher, because I have been in their shoes and it is so overwhelming at times. Sometimes new teachers aren't so willing to ask for help because they don't want to be a "burden" or look "incompetent" in the eyes of another professional colleague. But I am a person that will communicate with them and help them to feel relaxed so that they can come to me with questions and feel they have someone who is there to help them when they need it. I also feel communication is extremely important between a student and a teacher. If my students doesn't understand something they might not always be ready to admit it. A teacher is also a psychologist who must understand his or her students' needs, cultural differences, diversity and try to create a safe, comfortable, fair, and consistent learning environment for them. My students know I care about each and every one of them. If they do something wrong in my class, we deal with it and then we move on. Tomorrow is another day and I would never hold something over my students' heads. Also, last but not least is the fact that I feel it's very important to communicate with the parents of my students. They need to know how their students are doing and if there are things that I am worried or concerned about I want to be able to communicate with parents. I have always believed that it is very important to communicate with parents right away if I have the feeling that something is wrong with their child or if I am really worried for whatever reason about their child. Communication in every aspect of teaching is vital to the learning of children!

Artifact 1 shows a PowerPoint that I made which has been great not only for me to look back on and realize what I have learned but I also implement it into my classroom and have shared it with my students. Through this project I have effectively communicated research-based examples, best practices, original strategies and new strategies that I have implemented and learned about in my reading class. We will have three new English teachers in Chester which I will continue to share my curriculum views with so that we are a department that effectively communicates our standards, goals, and curriculum here at Chester Area School.

Article 2 was a Partner/Read share that I did with Kristi Philips for my Effective Teaching class. This was a wonderful assignment because I was able to communicate with another colleague about her work and she shared comments with me about my work. We were very straight forward with comments and we listened very well to each other so that we could further reflect and write down what we feel we needed to work on or what was a really good concept that we were already using in our classes. This created a culture of openness that didn't always exist for Kristi and I. We now are much more open to share ideas with each other and help each other through difficult dilemmas that occur in our curriculums or classrooms. This sharing time might force some of us together, but in the final outcome it makes us much better teachers who communicate more which makes the learning experience of our students more beneficial to them.

Article 3 is a wonderful example of how I effectively communicate with people in the community of Chester. We do not have a paper here in Chester so we have to find ways to showcase the things that are students are doing and learning in our classrooms. We all know that children don't always go home and tell their parents what they do in school but this is one way for parents to know what is going on in their child's class. I share information with them through a newsletter that our school has created. The newsletter is very informative and I add one or two pages to it so that I am effectively communicating to the public and parents what students here in Chester are learning.
