Introduction

My name is Velda Schneider and I have been teaching for 11 years now. I earned my undergraduate degree at South Dakota State University. Go Jacks! My first teaching job was at O'Gorman High School where I taught Spanish for four years before moving up by Brant Lake and becoming a teacher at Chester Area School. I have taught 7 years at Chester. At Chester I have taught 8th and 9th English and Spanish I-IV. The last two years I also taught German I and II at our colony school Rustic Acres. I am planning to continue to use much of what I have learned in my graduate education classes to better educate the Chester community not just the students at Chester Area School. I want to continue to be a leader in my school and this master's degree has helped take my teaching to an even higher level. Here at Chester, we have hired two new English teachers both who are inexperienced, so one of my goals this year is to help them better understand our curriculum here at Chester and the state standards for language arts and how to implement them into the classroom along with following our curriculum. My future plans are to stay at Chester Area School and continue to teach Spanish and English and also continue in the future to teach some more German via Chester Area Cyberschool. I would also some day like to earn my ELL degree and possibly become an ELL instructor down in Sioux Falls.
