Lesson Overview/Summary:

 

Students will learn the proper phrases to use when put in an emergency situation.  They will ask for help at a police station, doctor's office, and at the pharmacy.  They will watch scenarios and then work on creating their own emergency scenarios and presenting them to class.

 
Students Will Understand:  

Students will understand the importance of learning practical Spanish dialogues that are used in real-life situations.  Students will realize that being able to speak speak Spanish can open doors of opportunities for them and these phrases will help them to achieve these goals.

Questions:

How do I find a police station, pharmacy and a doctor's office?
How do I explain that I am feeling sick and what my sickness is?
How do I get a prescription filled?
What do I say to a police officer when I need help?

Standard Based Goals & Objectives:

Standard 4:  Students will use world languages to Internet in multilingual communities and to analyze career options in a global marketplace.

Prerequisite Skills &

Key Knowledge:

My Spanish II class will have to have a developed understanding of the present and preterit tenses.
The understanding of how to communicate with another culture.
Skills necessary to go through the math to do an exchange rate of U.S. currency and pesos or pesetas.
The basic Spanish vocabulary to help develop better sentence fluency.

 

Special Considerations:

Resource room students will be given extra time and help to finish this project.  Their scenarios will not have to be quite so complex.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed on their own created dialogue scenarios for each of the three areas.  A rubric will be used for this.
