Connect to site, get focused and review protocol.

I will give students an opening lesson on Christopher Columbus.  I will create a K-W-H-L chart to build upon prior knowledge of what students know, what they want to know and in the end I list what they learned by having an open discussion.  We will do this chart on the smart board with student participation.

I will give students a power point presentation about Christopher Columbus and the timeline of his life and voyages.  I will discuss his early years, and give a timeline on his voyages.  Students will have a worksheet that they will be filling in at both sites, as I give them the power point presentation.

Extended Activity/Homework:  I will have students submit a journal entry into the WebCt discussion so that I know they are trying to think and connect with the tasks at hand.  I will also post certain reflection questions about Christoper Columbus’s timeline so that they are thinking about the presentation that I gave them.  Also I will  have students respond in e-mail by having them e-mail 2 things that they thought were really interesting about the WebCt e-mail.

Get the Vtel system ready and running.

I will need to use the smart board (white board) to write on as I do the KWL chart with my students.

I will need to have the K-W-H-L Chart there ahead of time.

Special Considerations

Resource students will be grouped with other students for one on one help.  Students who struggle with vocabulary or the preterite tense will be able to further help from my website or via e-mail or after school from me.

Assessment
Teacher observation will be used at each site.  Students from each site will have to have the worksheet finished for tomorrow.  I will check to make sure that all students finish the assignment.  I will also be checking students to make sure that students are using the preterite tense correctly and using their new vocabulary words in Spanish.

(Below you will find my worksheets that go along with this lesson, and a copy of the power point that I will give to my students.)
